one-on-one weaving workshop
one-on-one weaving workshop
Instructor: Emma Warren
Level: Beginner
In this two day workshop, participants will learn the basics of operating a 4-harness Macomber floor loom. Since setting up the loom can be quite a time consuming process, the warp will be prepared and tied on for you prior to the start of the workshop so that we can focus our time together on the fun part - weaving! On the first day, we will review the warping process and learn the basics of plain weave, basket weave, twill and some tapestry techniques. This will be a day of experimentation and discovering which materials and weave structures resonate the most for you. On day two, participants will design and weave a project of their choosing. The workshop will conclude with cutting your weaving off the loom and learning how to finish the edges.
Please note: This workshop will be two sequential days, 5 hours each, in my studio in downtown Burlington, VT. Once you have registered for the course, I will reach out via email for scheduling. In an effort to make this accessible for everyone’s varying availability, I will be offering time slots during daytimes, evenings and weekends starting in January 2025.
All tools and materials will be provided but please feel free to bring any yarn or non-traditional materials (e.g. - plant matter, thin metal wire, recycled plastic, etc) that you are interested in playing around with!
